Our Application Process

In a college classroom, two students are looking down at a notebook together, a teacher or TA helping them make sense of it.

We know that leaders are forged through work ethic and determination, so our application and interview process evaluates more than the traditional markers of classroom achievement. To meet the needs of deserving students who may not qualify for typical funding options, we look beyond household income to understand the family’s lived financial situation.

What Makes a Perryman Scholar

A Perryman Scholar is more than “a good student.” They are someone who strives to grow, contributes to those around them, and persists through challenges. We look for applicants who demonstrate determination in their work, a willingness to lead when it matters, a genuine connection to their family or community, and the drive to pursue their goals. Qualities such as collaboration, respect for different perspectives, and the ability to learn from life’s obstacles often stand out during our selection process.
